Poker Chip Tricks 101: The Rock-and-Roll
The rock-and-roll is a pretty impressive poker chip trick. It is actually an extension of the chip twirl. So if you already mastered that meditative and stress-relieving chip trick, this will be a piece of cake for you.
A smooth execution of the rock-and-roll is a beauty to behold. It is not as explosive as, say, the butterfly, but it is graceful enough to gain attention.
The aim of the rock-and-roll is this: using a single hand and a stack of three chips, you roll the middle chip out, execute the chip twirl (the "rock" part of the trick), lift this chip on top of your index finger, and roll it back into position (the "roll").
Here is a step-by-step explanation of how to do the rock-and-roll.
1. If you do not know how to do the chip twirl, steps one and two offers a simplified version. With your thumb and index finger, hold the stack of three chips by the edges. Position the chips so that your fingers are on the diameter.
2. Using your middle finger, roll out the middle chip. Catch it with your ring finger. Simultaneously clip the middle chip with your ring finger and the side of your index finger while releasing your middle finger. With your middle finger, push the edge of the chip all the way through until it rotates.
3. Instead of releasing your middle finger when the chip fully rotates, let it go all the way through. So you will sort of have your middle finger under the rotated chip. Simultaneously clip the chip between the sides of your middle and index finger while releasing the hold of your ring finger.
4. By slowly moving your middle finger away, lift the chip on the other side of your index finger. This means that the chip should be resting flatly on the side of your index finger and the other chips on the stack. Make sure that there is still space in the middle of the stack.
5. Hold the stack with your middle finger. Lift your index finger. The chip should still be on your index finger's side.
6. Slowly retract your index finger. The chip should also be slanting slowly. Do this until the chip rolls and falls onto the space between the stack. Congratulations, you just did the rock-and-roll!
The rock-and-roll is a nice poker chip trick to watch. Our advice is that you practice doing the chip twirl first before you proceed with this trick, as it is a little more advanced. If you fail to get it at first, remember that the only way to master any poker chip trick is to practice a lot.
