Playing Guide to Omaha High
Omaha high is a poker variation that embraces three basic concepts. First, the highest ranking poker hand wins the pot. Second, two out of four pocket cards are used to start off one's five-card poker hand. And third, three out of five communal or board cards are used to round off one's poker hand.
Omaha high requires the use of a standard 52-card deck, a dealer button, and playing chips. This game can be played by a minimum of two players to a maximum of ten players.
The game commences with the posting of the small blind then the big blind, respectively, by two players to the dealer's left. After the blinds are posted, each player will be dealt four pocket cards to privately inspect. Keep in mind that two of these four pocket cards will be used to make a five-card poker hand.
Then, the first round of betting will start with the player to big blind's left and will continue clockwise around the table. Players who remain in the hand will then proceed to see the flop.
Three board cards will be dealt face-up on the flop. Then, another round of betting will start with the remaining player who is seated to the dealer's left. When the betting round is completed, the players who are still in the game will proceed to see the turn.
The fourth board card will be dealt face-up on the turn. Another round of betting will start and afterwards, players who are still in the hand will see the river.
The fifth board card will be shown on the river and the final betting round will start. When the betting round is finished, the remaining players will show their cards for the showdown.
Using two of their four pocket cards and three from the five cards on the board, players will show their best poker hand. And whoever has the highest ranking five-card poker hand will win the pot.
